Punchy Peach Southpaw Double!

Review & Extractions of PT's Coffee - Southpaw Espresso (2 Extractions)

  • Roaster: PT's Coffee

  • Coffee: Southpaw

  • Type: Blend

  • Roast: Light / Medium

  • Origins: Ethiopia, Colombia

  • Flavors: Caramel, Peach, Sugarcane

If you love coffee with a strong peach flavor, then this is the coffee for you! The smell of fresh juicy peaches cut right through the bag. Personally I'm not usually a fan of anything other than an actual peach having a peach flavor to it. That's because I dislike that artificial peach taste that you get in candy and peach sodas. This coffee DOES NOT have an artificial type peach flavor at all! This peach flavor has more of a ripe yellow peach taste to it that is very enjoyable. As an added bonus the sugarcane flavor gives it almost a granulated sugar taste to it that reminds me of the crust of southern peach pie. Slight chocolate undertones with a bright creamy caramel helps balance out the acidity from the peach nicely. I gotta say, as much as I enjoyed their Flying Monkey espresso, I prefer this one. Extractions with my 16/20g IMS basket tasted really good, a little shaky, but flowed well for a light medium. The peach flavor was so incredible that I decided to move down to a 15g Decent Espresso basket to see if I could get it to punch through even harder. I feel that the IMS basket produced better flavors overall, however the 15g dose seemed to add a little richness to the peach. I will have to invest in a 15g IMS basket for the best of both worlds.

Espresso 1st Extraction

  • Basket: 15g Decent Espresso

  • Weight In: 15 grams

  • Weight Out: 28 grams

  • Temp: 200F

  • Extraction Time: 28 sec

Espresso 2nd Extraction

  • Basket: 16/20g IMS Precision Standard

  • Weight In: 19 grams

  • Weight Out: 36 grams

  • Temp: 200F

  • Extraction Time: 30 sec

Notes: Both shots tasted great. However I enjoyed the intensity of the 15g DE basket, but the flavor of the IMS basket. I need to buy a 15g IMS basket and put that to the ultimate test.
